On display at Nampo this week, Ford has unveiled some of the models which can be prepared by trusted suppliers, for specific business needs. This initiative replaces the previous Qualified Vehicle Modifiers (QVM) system with a clear focus on quality assurance and customer peace of mind. Ford has done so to create a trusted network of approved converters who can modify vehicles like the Ranger bakkie, Everest SUV, and Transit van to meet specific commercial needs. Some of the applications identified are flatbed truck, ambulance, armoured transport, and specialised mining equipment.

The key advantage for businesses lies in the assurance that these conversions won’t void the original Ford warranty on the unaffected parts of the vehicle. Furthermore, the approved converter provides its own warranty on the modifications, matching Ford’s standard coverage. This dual warranty approach offers significant protection for buyers investing in customised fleets.

Customers discuss their needs with their local Ford dealer, who then connects them with a suitable FPC partner. After agreeing on the specifications and price, the dealer manages the coordination between the customer and the converter. While the complexity of the conversion will dictate the timeline, typical lead times are around four to six weeks.

Beyond the warranty benefits, the FPC programme also ensures regulatory compliance. Upon completion, the converter provides a Homologation Certificate, confirming the vehicle meets all legal requirements in its modified form. This eliminates potential headaches when registering or reselling the vehicle.

Ford has two converted Rangers and a Transit currently on display at Nampo.
