In 2024, Ineos Automotive unveiled a modified version of its Grenadier Quartermaster bakkie, which has been developed in partnership with German off-road specialist LeTech GmbH & Co KG. The collaboration has yielded a bakkie that features portal axles, a raised chassis, and offset wheel hubs, all of which are intended to significantly increase its off-road capabilities. A mini monster truck, the modifications result in a ground clearance of 514 mm, which is a whopping 250 mm increase over the standard model. In addition, the raised height increases the bakkie’s wading depth to 1 050 mm, up from 800 mm.

The portal axle-equipped Quartermaster was showcased at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, alongside other Grenadier prototypes, including a V8-powered Station Wagon and an eight-seat Safari conversion. While these models are currently prototypes, Ineos is now producing the portal axle variant, but it will be a limited production run only.

As a reminder, the Ineos Grenadier Quartermaster is equipped with BMW-sourced 3.0-litre inline-six engines, available in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol engine delivers 210 kW and 450 N.m of torque, while the diesel variant produces 183 kW and 550 N.m. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission. Just like its standard counterpart, this raised ride height alternative features a permanent four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case and a standard centre differential lock. Optional front and rear locking differentials are available too.

Pricing isn’t yet available, but the Grenadier lineup starts at R1 378 850 and ends at R1 862 100 for the Trialmaster Edition. The Quartermaster lineup starts at R1 717 100 and ends at R1 862 100 for the Trialmaster Edition. The upgrades by LeTech would expectedly raise the price tag as much as it raises the bakkie itself.
