Aiming to capture the “People’s Car” essence of the original Beetle in a future-focused package, the ID. Every1 concept previews the most affordable member in VW’s ID. family of electric vehicles. Scheduled to make its debut in 2027, VW says the production version, likely to be named ID. 1, will cost around €20 000 (R400 000). Sharing the underpinnings of the ID. 2all, the ID. Every1 is based on the German marque’s new modular electric drive (MEB) architecture. The new concept’s compact bodywork measures 1 490 mm high, 1 816 mm wide and 3 880 mm long, placing it between the Up! and Polo size-wise.

Power is provided by a newly developed, front-mounted electric motor that produces 70 kW and is good for a top speed of 130 km/h and an operating range of at least 250 km. However modest, these figures are acceptable considering this ID. was designed for city use.

The minimalistic design language of the ID. Every1’s exterior is echoed throughout the cabin, which features a slim instrumentation display and larger, landscape-oriented touchscreen infotainment system. The combination of MEB and front-wheel drive allows for the efficient use of interior space and a luggage capacity of 350 litres.
