Alfa Romeo is no stranger to the 1000 Miglia, both when it ran as a race and now as a regularity rally – the Italian brand remains the most successful marque in 1000 Miglia history, having claimed 11 wins between 1928 and 1957. In 2025, following the announcement of a partnership with racing team Luna Rossa, it will be returning with a 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint. Behind the wheel will be Max Sirena, who is the skipper and team director of Luna Rossa. The car comes from Stellantis’ heritage collection and normally resides at the Alfa Romeo museum in Arese.

The 1900 Super Sprint was one of the standout GT cars of its era. Built on a shortened 1900 sedan chassis and fitted with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder twin-cam engine making 86 kW, it was known for combining race-worthy performance with daily usability. The car’s aluminium bodywork was designed by Touring, one of several Italian coachbuilders that regularly collaborated with Alfa Romeo at the time. Only 858 examples of this final series were produced between 1955 and 1958.

While the focus is on vintage machinery, the 2025 event also marks the public road debut of Alfa Romeo’s new 33 Stradale, a hand-built, limited-production model inspired by the brand’s 1960s original. Like the Super Sprint, the modern 33 Stradale was shaped by Carrozzeria Touring and blends retro styling with modern engineering. Alfa Romeo will also provide support vehicles for the race, including the hybrid Tonale, the Giulia Quadrifoglio Super Sport, and the recently introduced Junior Q4 Ibrida crossover.

This is essentially one of the starting points for the relationship between Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa. The two brands recently entered a broader partnership that includes preparations for the 2027 America’s Cup in Naples.
