Unaudited mid-month data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF) points to upward adjustments for both petrol and diesel, suggesting South African motorists should brace for a moderate increase in fuel prices at the start of July 2025.

The anticipated hikes follow a series of recent price cuts that had offered some temporary relief at the pumps. However, global oil market volatility, particularly due to rising tensions in the Middle East, has sent international oil prices climbing once again. While a firmer Rand has softened the impact somewhat, the overall trend is still pointing to a fuel price increase. According to the CEF’s mid-month snapshot, all grades of petrol are expected to see an increase of under 10 cents respectively, while diesel will see slightly higher increases.

  • Diesel 500 ppmIncrease of 10 cents per litre
  • Diesel 50 ppmIncrease of 12 cents per litre

These figures come on the heels of a recent hike in the General Fuel Levy (GFL), which saw petrol and diesel levies increase by 16 and 15 cents per litre respectively, further compounding pressure on consumers. Official adjustments to fuel prices for July will be confirmed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy at month-end and will take effect on Wednesday, 2 July 2025.
