Rospa Ready to Import Converted RHD American Vehicles to SA Market

Rospa International, a Durban-based car importer known for bringing in JDM cult classics, has now partnered with Australia’s Autogroup International (AGI) to commence importing American vehicles, converted to right-hand drive, for the South African market.

Previously, Rospa concentrated primarily on JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) icons. However, this new agreement with AGI facilitates the importation of American-made muscle cars, bakkies and SUVs. This expanded offering includes models like the Dodge Challenger, Chevrolet Camaro, GMC Sierra, and even newer, technology-advanced options such as the Hummer EV and Toyota Tundra Hybrid.

AGI has been converting left-hand drive vehicles to right-hand drive since the early 1990s. Based in Australia, the company has reportedly converted over 5 000 vehicles for various markets, including the UK, Japan, and the Middle East. South Africa has now been added to this list. This initiative provides local buyers with access to American cars that were previously difficult to register or insure in the country. All vehicles will be offered in a right-hand drive configuration, ensuring they are road-legal and more straightforward to finance. As these are imported as brand-new units, buyers can secure bank financing just as they would for any other new car available in the market.

Rospa states that every vehicle will include a three-year or 100 000 km warranty, complemented by after-sales support from trained technicians in Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban. This comprehensive support system could make these imports more attractive to buyers who have previously been hesitant about grey imports due to limited support. While American pickups may appeal to buyers seeking utility, the primary interest is anticipated from enthusiasts. Models like the Dodge Charger and Challenger, long unavailable in right-hand drive markets, will finally be accessible in South Africa without the need for private conversions or questionable compliance.
