Haval Fast Facts

  • Headquarters: Baoding, China
  • Founded: 2013
  • SA lineup: 5 models
  • Cheapest model: Jolion (from R345 950)
  • Most expensive model: H6 GT 2.0 GDIT 4WD Super Luxury (R662 250)

Established in 2013 as a standalone GWM sub-brand, Haval specialises in SUVs and crossovers. Having entered South Africa in 2017 with the H2 – albeit with varying degrees of success – the Jolion’s arrival in 2021 was a massive turning point for the brand. It was one of the first Chinese vehicles to offer an array of technologies, including active and passive safety features, at a significantly lower price point, opening the proverbial door for tech-laden Chinese vehicles.

In its eight years here, Haval has fine-tuned its portfolio – subtracting and adding models to cater to the local market’s needs. The 2025 SUV lineup comprises the Jolion Pro, H6, and H6 GT, with the rugged-looking H7 the most recent addition. The latter is powered by two turbocharged petrol engines (2.0-litre, 1.5-litre), with the smaller of the two reserved for the hybrid derivative that is scheduled for a launch in the second quarter of this year.
