As part of its renewed dedication to South Africa, Chery launched its sub-brand Omoda locally in 2023 – almost a year after it was founded. The brand is positioned as a more upmarket alternative to the parent company’s offerings, much as Lexus is to Toyota. Ours was the first African country to welcome Omoda, also beating the European market to the punch. The Omoda portfolio consists of the C5 and C9 SUVs, with the former employing a 1.5-litre turbopetrol engine and the latter a 2.0-litre turbopetrol unit. Automatic transmissions are fitted throughout, and only the headlining C9 offers all-wheel drive.
