VW Group Africa Brings In 540 Youth for 2025 YES Programme

Volkswagen Group Africa is stepping up again to give young South Africans a shot at real-world work experience. For the seventh year running, the company is backing the Youth Employment Service (YES) programme and this time, it’s bringing in 540 participants for the 2025 intake.

The YES programme, launched in 2019, was designed to address South Africa’s staggering youth unemployment rate. VW Group Africa has been part of the effort since day one, placing participants not just at its own sites, but also across its dealer network and with smaller business partners.

Out of the 540 joining this year, 296 will be placed directly within VW operations, mostly in Kariega, where 232 positions are based. Another 62 are headed to Gauteng, and two will be stationed in the Western Cape. The other 244 will be placed with partner organisations around October, extending the programme’s footprint beyond the automotive world. Since joining YES, VW Group Africa has helped more than 3 600 young people get a foot in the door.

“We firmly believe that today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders,” said Nonkqubela Maliza, who leads Corporate and Government Affairs at VWGA. It’s the kind of line that could sound like a throwaway, but here, it tracks with what the company’s been doing for the better part of a decade, investing in skills and opening up real career paths for people who need them.
