Ford Ranger Handed the Bulletproof Treatment
Armormax has handed the Ford Ranger the bulletproof treatment, with the armouring company revealing the newly developed Security Variant.

Armormax has developed a discreet B6-level armouring package for the 2.0-litre turbodiesel-equipped Ford Ranger 4×4. The project integrates ballistic materials with OEM-aligned engineering to ensure structural integrity and maintain manufacturer warranties under the Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier (QVM) programme.
The armoured conversion was developed in-house by Armormax after a client requested several B6-spec vehicles, who insisted that Armormax take on the project. The Ranger would be intended to be used as a patrol and intercept vehicle capable of taking fire from multiple assault rifles in a hostile environment. The Ranger would still need to be capable off-road, handle the additional weight of equipment and be equipped to provide maximum visibility at night. Another important detail is that the Ranger shouldn’t resemble a patrol/security/armoured vehicle while remaining robust and reliable.

A discreet armoured vehicle typically does not look visibly armoured from the outside, and Armormax has taken it a step further by not compromising the vehicle’s standard functions, dynamics, or aesthetics on the exterior and interior, while still protecting its occupants from armed assailants. The Ranger retains all original OEM panels and surfaces, and use lightweight armouring solutions. The B6 conversion and accessories add 519 kg to the Ranger’s weight.
The door pillars, firewalls and fenders are reinforced with a combination of Ramor and Armox ballistic steel, offering certified B6 protection. The floor and roof use lightweight composite armour, while critical components such as the fuel tank, battery, and ECU are shielded with self-sealing or composite materials. All ballistic components are integrated without modifying load-bearing chassis elements.
Windows include an OEM-fit B6 ballistic windscreen and custom Phoenix B6 glass for side and rear windows. The rear window doubles as a quick-release emergency escape hatch. Gun ports are discreetly integrated into three doors, avoiding typical glass-mounted ports.

To suit a range of operational environments, the vehicle is fitted with high-powered LED light bars, a remote-controlled 360-degree spotlight, hidden white strobes, and a roof-mounted infrared camera that’s linked to an in-cabin display. All systems are powered by a secondary battery supported by a REDARC charger. A PA system with siren and in-vehicle two-way push-to-talk comms are included in the package.
Mobility upgrades include heavy-duty, adjustable Old Man Emu suspension and military-grade Duraflat run-flat inserts that maintain driveability after tyre deflation.
The full armouring package is priced at R1 043 478.26, which excludes VAT and the cost of the donor vehicle. Including in the pricing is a three-year warranty on all armouring components and workmanship. All accessories were sourced through approved Ford QVM partners.
