Top 5 Best-Selling Bakkies in South Africa — June 2025

In the sixth month of 2025, South Africa’s bakkie segment recorded a continued increase in sales. Here’s the breakdown of South Africa’s best-selling bakkies in June 2025.

South Africa’s overall 2025 new-car sales continued to show growth in June, with the passenger car and light commercial vehicle (LCV) segments especially seeing an increase in sales — naamsa reporting the former and latter registering increases of 21.7 and 14.9% over June 2024, respectively.

Taking a closer look at the popular bakkie segment, comparing the June 2025 sales to May 2025’s, there was a considerable rise in sales of vehicles of this ilk. Each of South Africa’s top five best-selling bakkies in May 2025 saw an increase in registrations in the sixth month of this year. However, there was a change to the list (see below).

In June 2025, the Toyota Hilux remained South Africa’s best-selling bakkie. However, perhaps more noteworthy is that the Japanese automaker’s locally-built bakkie recorded a 487-unit increase in sales over what it achieved in May 2025. Similarly, Ford Ranger and Isuzu D-Max sales were up — by 171 and 205 units, respectively.

Rounding out the top five, the Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up registered a 74-unit increase in sales, while the Land Cruiser bakkie pipped the Nissan Navara for fifth place. Compared to May 2025’s figure, 243 more customers put pen to paper for the former, rugged 4×4 bakkie.

Although the Nissan was relegated to sixth position, the 403 Navara units sold in June 2025 still signifies an increase over the figure recorded in May 2025. GWM P-Series and Volkswagen Amarok sales increased by 19 and 72 units, respectively.

  2. Ford Ranger — 2 318 units (up 171)
  3. Isuzu D-Max — 1 678 units (up 205)
  4. Mahindra Scorpio Pik-Up — 860 units (up 74)
  5. Toyota Land Cruiser — 591 units (up 243)
