Based on the seventh-generation 3 Series, the 50 Jahre Edition, as its name suggests, was designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW’s premium midsize sedan. Inspired by 3 Series iterations of the past, the special edition is available with several “signature” exterior paint finishes – Aegean Blue and British Racing Green from the third generation, Stratus Grey from the fourth generation, and Lime Rock Grey from the sixth generation.

Limited to only 50 examples locally, the 50 Jahre Edition is exclusively available with the 320i and M340i xDrive derivatives. The 320i M Jahre Edition is priced from R1 067 730.80, making it R104 000 more expensive than the 320i M Sport model. The limited-edition M340i xDrive costs R1 422 607.30, signifying a R58 000 premium over the “standard” model. Pricing includes a five-year/100 000 km maintenance plan and a two-year/unlimited km warranty.

The interior of the British Racing Green 320i 50 Jahre Edition features perforated Sensatec upholstery, finished in Cognac. The special-edition M340i’s interior sports black Vernasca leather, replete with blue contrast stitching.
The firm’s M Sport package, which includes black high-gloss accents, and aluminium trim are included as standard. BMW’s CraftedClarity gear selector is also present. Other standard items include Comfort Access, Park Assist Plus, Driving Assist Professional, Harmon/Kardon audio, and adaptive M suspension.

As a reminder, the 320i employs a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbopetrol engine. Coupled with en eight-speed automatic transmission, the powertrain delivers 135 kW and 300 N.m of torque to the road via the rear axle. BMW claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.4 seconds, a top speed of 235 km/h, and an average fuel consumption of 6.5 L/100 km.
The M340i xDrive is equipped with the German marque’s familiar 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six, which produces 285 kW and 500 N.m for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.3 seconds. The all-paw M Performance model has a top speed of 250 km/h. BMW claims an average fuel consumption of 8.0 L/100 km.
