Mercedes-Maybach has whipped the wraps off its latest special-edition model, the V12 Edition. Based on the German marque’s flagship model, the Mercedes-Maybach S680, the V12 Edition celebrates the Stuttgart automaker’s legacy of V12-powered luxury vehicles, which dates back to the early 20th Century. Only 50 units will be built.
The V12 Edition builds on the S680’s standard tech, while adding a range of optional features. This includes electrically operated rear doors, active road noise suppression, rear-axle steering and E-Active Body Control active suspension. Interior tech includes adaptive MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience), comprising a five-screen setup with partial OLED technology.
The interior is lathered in MANUFAKTUR exclusive saddle brown Nappa leather and high-gloss brown burr walnut wood trim featuring special embroidery. The handcrafted steering wheel receives the same treatment, while the roof liner is wrapped in matching diamond-quilted saddle brown Nappa leather. The centre console plays host to a “1 of 50” badge and a golden embellishment with the ‘V12 Edition’ emblem as the centrepiece.
Each unit comes with Robbe & Berking silver-plated champagne flutes with edition-specific engravings and a boot mat edged in saddle brown to match the interior. Additionally, owners receive a handcrafted key gift box from MANUFAKTUR in Sindelfingen, Germany and an edition-specific key ring.
The special-edition Mercedes-Maybach’s exterior features a two-tone paint scheme, with MANUFAKTUR olive metallic on the upper body set against obsidian black metallic on the lower body – the former and latter divided by a silver pinstripe. According to the company, completing the bespoke finish can take up to 10 working days, twice the time required for the firm’s “standard” two-tone paintwork.
The V12 Edition sits on forged wheels, finished in MANUFAKTUR olive metallic. The edition-specific emblems on the C-pillar comprise the Maybach double-M badge and a chrome and gold medal with the number 12. The 24-carat gold medal inlay, adorned with diamond engraving, is divided into 12 segments and features a V-pattern – the latter paying homage to the V12 engine. The emblem also serves as a nod to the Maybach Zeppelin DS 8, which featured a similar bonnet ornament.
The V12 Edition employs a 6.0-litre biturbo V12 engine, paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The twelve-cylinder powerplant produces 450 kW and 900 N.m of torque for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds, before topping out at 250 km/h.
