Unveiled in May 2025, the sixth iteration of the Toyota RAV4 is en route to South Africa, with the Japanese automaker’s local arm announcing when the brand-new model will arrive in our market.

As a reminder, the sixth-generation RAV4 will exclusively employ petrol-electric powertrains – a 127 kW  2.5-litre mild-hybrid and 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid, the latter available in single and dual electric-motor configuration, which produces a combined power output of 200 kW in the front-wheel-drive derivatives and 227 kW in the all-wheel-drive models, respectively. The mild-hybrid unit will also be available with the choice of front- and all-wheel drivetrains.

New Toyota RAV4 SA Launch Date

The new Toyota RAV4 will arrive in South Africa in the first half of 2026. The local lineup, detailed specifications and pricing have yet to be confirmed. Though, we expect it will be revealed closer to the official launch date.

The box-fresh RAV4 will be offered in six guises globally, with the GX model serving as the opening gambit to the lineup – followed by GXL, Edge, XSE, Cruiser, and GR Sport levels of specification, the latter exclusively equipped with the most powerful PHEV setup available and with all-wheel drive. GR Sport grade also gains revised steering and suspension, and a 20 mm-wider track.

Depending on the trim, the next-gen RAV4 will play host to such items as 12.3-inch digital instrumentation; 10.5- or 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring; dual-zone climate control; and a nine-speaker JBL audio system. A suite of advanced driver assistance systems will also form part of the package.
