We have rounded up the top five best-selling adventure SUVs for August 2025. Here’s the breakdown.

In August 2025, naamsa reported that 51 880 new vehicles were sold in South Africa – an 18.7% increase compared to August 2024. Of the total new vehicle sales in August 2025, an estimate of 43 196 units sold were attributed to dealer sales, 6 266 to the rental industry, 1 215 to corporate fleets, and 1 203 to government sales. The 36 914 new passenger-car sales in the eighth month of 2025 represented the highest since September 2024. With our market’s penchant towards adventure SUVs, we’ve decided to take a closer look at this segment; rounding up the best-selling adventure SUVs in SA in August 2025.

5. Land Rover Defender – 132

The Defender was Jaguar Land Rover’s most popular model in August 2025; accounting for 132 of the 233 total units the brand sold in August 2025. Noteworthy, the Defender is the most expensive vehicle on this list, with a starting price of R1 801 100.

4. Toyota Land Cruiser 300 – 136

It’s no surprise that Toyota features on a list such as this, and the first Toyota to appear here comes in the shape of the Japanese brand’s flagship SUV, the Land Cruiser 300. The 136 units sold are but a drop in Toyota’s 13 276 total sales in August 2025, which once again made this automaker top the list of SA’s best-selling car brands in August 2025. However, it remains a respectable number considering this vehicle is priced from R1 542 300-R2 172 600.

3. Toyota Land Cruiser Prado – 270

With just less than double the sales of its larger sibling, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado earned its place as the third best-selling adventure SUV in South Africa. The Prado is powered by the same 2.8-litre, four-cylinder powertrain as the Hilux and seven-seater, ladder-frame SUV that placed first on this list.

2. Ford Everest – 323

In August 2025, 323 new Ford Everest units found homes in South Africa. Based on the Ranger, this adventure SUV is the Blue Oval brand’s flagship offering in the segment.

1. Toyota Fortuner – 789

The ever-popular Toyota Fortuner once again proved itself as the best-selling adventure SUV in South Africa, with an impressive 789 units sold in August 2025. The Fortuner, which was SA’s 11th best-selling passenger car in August 2025, boasts an extensive range of variants, priced from R679 100 for the entry-level derivative to R999 000 for the range-topping, GR-Sport model, which we’ve sampled earlier this year.
