Local new-car sales in August 2025 continued to see an upward trend, with 51 880 units sold – an increase of 497 units compared to July 2025. Of the former figure, the passenger-car segment accounted for 71% of sales in the eighth month of 2025. We’ve reported on the best-selling car brands in SA in August 2025. Now, we take a closer look at how the Chinese automakers fared.
So, we have rounded up the best-selling Chinese car brands in South Africa for August 2025. (It is worth noting that, for this list, we’ve listed the subsidiaries of each company individually. For example, GWM and Haval, and Chery and Omoda.)
5. Jetour – 773

In August 2025, Jetour’s total sales increased by 56 units, with the Dashing remaining the Wuhu-based brand’s most popular model locally. The X70 Plus, by contrast, recorded only a modest increase of two units.
4. GWM – 821

Once again, the P-Series proved to be the best-selling model for Great Wall Motors (GWM) in August 2025, with the 557 P-Series units sold in the eighth month of 2025 signifying an increase of 162 units compared to July 2025. Noteworthy, thanks to the latter, the P-Series returned to the list of SA’s best-selling bakkies in August 2025. Overall, the Baoding automaker’s local arm saw an increase of 81 units compared to the previous month.
3. Omoda – 876

Despite seeing an overall decrease in sales for in August 2025, this Chery sub-brand’s most popular model, the C5, saw a slight increase in sales, from 524 units sold in July to 538 units sold in August.
2. Haval – 1 698

Haval held steady in August 2025; recording just two more sales than the previous month. The Jolion was once again their bestseller, with this model accounting for 1 123 units of this GWM sub-brand’s overall 1 698 units sold.
1. Chery – 2 228

Chery boasts one of the largest model portfolios, with seven models currently offered locally. Although their overall sales increased, the sales for their most popular model, the Tiggo 4 Pro, decreased by 265 units in August compared to July 2025. However, the Tiggo 4 Pro managed to retain its spot among SA’s best-selling passenger cars in August 2025.
