Changan has entered the South African market, with this Chinese automaker’s initial local product portfolio comprising five models: the Alsvin sedan, CS75 Pro midsize SUV, which we sampled in an exclusive first SA drive, Deepal S07 all-electric SUV, and a duo of Hunter bakkie model lines — the Hunter 2.0L and Hunter REEV (range-extended electric vehicle). Now, while the firm has yet to reveal pricing for the REEV derivative, it has listed the 2.0L lineup on its SA website.

The current Hunter 2.0L lineup exclusively employs a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox in the 2WD derivative and a six-speed automatic transmission in the 4WD model. The oil-burner produces 110 kW and 350 N.m of torque.
Changan quotes a payload capacity of 1 100 kg for the 2WD and 1 000 kg for the 4WD. Both variants sport 226 mm-worth of ground clearance, and approach and departure angles of 28 and 27 degrees, respectively. The 4WD gains a rear diff lock.
As standard, both models play host to 10-inch touchscreen infotainment and cruise control. The 2WD’s manually-adjustable pews are upholstered in fabric, while the 4WD gains electric adjustment for its leather-trimmed items. The latter model also upgrades to 18-inch alloy wheels.
