Before the final race of the 2025 GR Cup at Zwartkops Raceway, the home of Toyota Gazoo Racing South Africa, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has made use of the opportunity to officially launch the updated GR Yaris at the ‘Big Z’ a few days before it’s lights out for the seventh round. As a reminder, this is the car fielded by the Media Challenge competitors, which includes CAR Magazine’s own Kyle Kock.

Boasting more power and torque, the updated GR Yaris’ 1.6-litre turbo-triple is now available with the choice of two transmission options – six-speed manual and newly-introduced eight-speed Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT), both of which delivering power to the road via Toyota’s GR-Four all-wheel-drive system. Both models are endowed with 210 kW and 400 N.m. According to the automaker, these figures allow for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 5.2 seconds and 230 km/h top speed. The firm claims an average fuel consumption of 8.2 and 9.1 L/100 km for the manual and auto models, respectively.
