Jeep has unveiled the Recon, a purpose-built all-electric SUV with which the automaker is charging into the future. Said Bob Broderdorf, CEO of the Jeep brand, “With the Jeep Recon, we’re proving that electrification isn’t just compatible with off-road excellence, it can elevate it, delivering instant torque, precision control and a quieter, more connected driving experience that’s uniquely Jeep.”
The Recon is equipped with a duo of electric motors, sited on the fore and aft axles, respectively. The twin-motor arrangement produces a combined system output of 478 kW and 840 N.m of torque, delivered to the road via all four corners. According to Jeep, these figures allow the emissions-free SUV to complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in as little as 3.7 seconds.
The Recon’s electric motors are coupled with a 100 kWh battery pack. According to Jeep, the 400 V item allows for an operating range of up to 402 km (depending on the trim grade) when fully charged.
Measuring 4 882 mm in length and 1 894 mm in width, the Recon’s boxy bodywork is similar in size to the Wrangler. The wheelbase spans 3 007 mm. Specified in Moab trim, the Recon offers 239 mm of ground clearance, and approach and departure angles of 34 and 34.5 degrees, respectively.
Stepping inside, the cabin plays host to a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display and 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment – the latter running on the carmaker’s Uconnect 5 software.
According to the Stellantis-owned US automaker, the Recon is a bold step forward for the Jeep brand. Staying true to the firm’s core values of freedom, adventure and capability, the firm says the Recon is purpose-built and ready to take enthusiasts into the future without compromising the performance they expect from a Jeep.
The Recon will be built at Jeep’s Toluca-based assembly facility in Mexico, with production scheduled to kick off in 2026.
