8. Haval H6 GT 1.5T PHEV 4WD Ultra Luxury: 2.71 seconds

In 2025, Haval handed its H6 lineup a thorough refresh, with the flagship, GT variant gaining a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, which pairs an electric motor with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-pot for a combined system output of 321 kW and 762 N.m of torque. Fitted with 340 mm ventilated brake discs fore and aft, the (2 075 kg, tested) H6 GT recorded an average 100-0 km/h time of 2.71 seconds.

7. Volvo EX90 Twin Performance Ultra: 2.69 seconds

The flagship all-electric SUV in Volvo’s portfolio, the EX90 Twin Performance Ultra is equipped with 400 mm front/390 mm rear ventilated brake discs, which did a commendable job of bringing this 2 712 kg (tested) emissions-free SUV to a halt in 2.69 seconds. The EX90 Twin Motor Performance Ultra’s dual electric-motor powertrain produces 380 kW and 910 N.m.

One of the most fuel-efficient vehicles CAR magazine tested in 2025, the new-energy Jaecoo J7 SHS recorded an average 100-0 km/h emergency braking time of 2.69 seconds.

5. Audi RS Q8 quattro performance: 2.61 seconds

One of the fastest-accelerating vehicles CAR magazine tested in 2025, the RS Q8 quattro performance test unit, which tipped our scales at 2 475 kg, was equipped with a set of 420 mm front/370 mm rear carbon-ceramic brakes. The halo Q recorded an average braking time of 2.61 seconds. The RS Q8 quattro performance’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 produces 471 kW and 850 N.m.

4. Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid 1.6T Elite AWD: 2.60 seconds

One of the highest-scoring vehicles tested by CAR magazine in 2025, the new Hyundai Santa Fe impressed with an average 100-0 km/h braking time of 2.60 seconds.

3. Ford Mustang GT: 2.58 seconds

Just one-hundredth of a second short of matching its Dark Horse stablemate’s 100-0 km/h braking time, the (328 kW/540 N.m) GT’s 390 mm front/350 mm rear ventilated brake discs brought it to a halt in 2.58 seconds.

Equipped with fore and aft 350 mm ventilated brake discs, the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupé, which we evaluated for a road test in the January 2025 Performance Issue of CAR magazine, recorded an average stopping time of 2.57 seconds over a distance of 37.7 metres.

The Aston Martin Vantage Coupé claimed top honours as the fastest-braking vehicle tested by CAR magazine in 2025. The Vantage’s 400 mm front/360 mm rear ventilated brake discs brought it to a halt from the three-figure marker in just 2.52 seconds over a distance of 34.26 metres.
