5 Slowest-Accelerating Vehicles CAR Magazine Tested in 2025

We have rounded up the five slowest-accelerating vehicles, based on their 0-100 km/h sprint times, tested by CAR magazine in 2025. See the list below.

5. Suzuki Swift 1.2 GLX MT: 12.05 seconds

Starting the off the list is CAR magazine’s budget car of choice in our Top 12 Best Buys for 2025 awards, the Suzuki Swift. The variant we tested in March was equipped with a five-speed manual transmission. We recorded a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 12.05 seconds. Although not the last word in straight-line performance, the Swift was one of the highest-scoring and most fuel-efficient vehicles we tested in 2025.

4. Honda Amaze 1.2 Trend MT: 12.22 seconds

The Honda Amaze, which we tested in the July 2025 issue of CAR magazine, employs a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol motor producing 66 kW and 110 N.m – the latter transferred to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. With a (tested) 32 kg weight penalty over the Swift, the Amaze completed the 0-100 km/h sprint in a (marginally slower) 12.22 seconds.

3. Hyundai Alcazar 1.5 Diesel Executive: 12.54 seconds

Launched in South Africa in May 2025, the Hyundai Alcazar replaced the Grand Creta in the automaker’s crossover/SUV portfolio. The diesel variant, which we tested in June, churns out 85 kW and 250 N.m. The turbocharged 1.5-litre oil-burner is coupled with a six-speed self-shifter and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 12.54 seconds; besting its claimed 12.9-second 0-100 km/h figure.

2. MG ZS 1.5 Luxury AT: 12.78 seconds

We tested MG South Africa’s entry-level compact crossover, the (first-generation) ZS, in April 2025. The ZS is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 84 kW and 150 N.m. We recorded a 0-100 km/h time of 12.78 seconds on our test strip, making it the second slowest accelerating vehicle we tested in 2025. As a reminder, positioned above the ZS in the automaker’s local product portfolio, we also road tested the second-generation ZS, dubbed ZS Pro in our market. The latter model, which employs a 125 kW/275 N.m turbocharged 1.5-litre petrol unit, completed the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.81 seconds.

1. Ford Tourneo Custom 2.0 SiT Trend LWB: 15.56 seconds

We evaluated the long-wheelbase Ford Tourneo Custom in March 2025, where we logged a 15.56-second 0-100 km/h acceleration time, which makes it the slowest vehicle we have tested this year. Powering the 2 385 kg (tested) people-mover is a 2.0-litre turbodiesel motor producing 100 kW and 360 N.m.
