9 Lowest-Scoring Vehicles CAR Magazine Tested in 2025

In 2025, CAR magazine road tested over 50 new vehicles. We’ve rounded up the vehicles that scored the lowest in 2025.

In each CAR magazine road test, we award a car a score out of 100. Now, we have rounded up the highest-scoring vehicles tested by CAR magazine in 2025, but which vehicles we tested scored the lowest? There were a couple ties…

7. Jeep Wrangler Limited 2.0T Rubicon: 75/100

In the May 2025 issue of CAR magazine, we noted that the appeal of the updated Wrangler lies in its modern infotainment and safety tech rather than the new 200 kW/400 N.m 2.0-litre turbopetrol (in lieu of the pre-updated model’s V6).

6=. Haval H7 2.0T 4WD Super Luxury: 73/100

The Haval H7’s characterful styling and well-executed cabin found favour among the CAR team. However, its relatively small boot and, perhaps more significantly, fuel consumption were black marks against the package.

6=. Mercedes-Benz Vito 119 CDI Tourer Select: 73/100

Road tested in the July 2025 issue of CAR magazine, the Vito Tourer Select feels impressively refined and is reasonably well equipped as standard. However, compared to its people-mover rivals, it does look rather expensive.

5. Ford Tourneo Custom 2.0 SiT Trend LWB: 72/100

In its March 2025 road test, the CAR team noted the (long-wheelbase) Tourneo Custom Trend’s cabin is impressively spacious and packs a respectable amount of equipment as standard. However, its powertrain’s 100 kW/360 N.m didn’t quite feel up to the standard of its peers. The ride quality is fluid, though.

4. BAIC B40 Plus 2.0T Champion: 71/100

Sporting retro-inspired styling, BAIC’s B40 Plus is equipped with a strong, yet thirsty, powertrain. Iffy interior trim finished and outdated infotainment are black marks against this off-road SUV.

3. Tata Harrier 2.0TD Fearless+: 66/100

There’s lots to like in terms of the Tata Harrier’s under-the-skin make-up, though, in its December 2025 road test, the CAR team noted it is left wanting in the refinement stakes compared to its rivals.

2=. Jetour X70 Plus 1.5T Deluxe: 62/100

Although keenly priced, the Jetour X70 Plus felt a bid rough around the edges in its February 2025 road test. The most significant black mark against this seven-seater is its driving dynamics.

2=. MG ZS 1.5 Luxury AT: 62/100

Although offering appealing styling at an affordable price point, the first-generation MG ZS feels a generation behind most of its rivals, the CAR team noted in its April 2025 road test. The CAR team also noted that its engine is considerably thirsty and could do with a touch more torque.

1. Chery Tiggo Cross 1.5 CSH HEV Elite: 60/100

Although one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles CAR magazine tested in 2025, the new-energy Chery Tiggo Cross, despite its stylish design, frugal powertrain and generous standard specification, ultimately fell short owing to vague steering, a firm ride, and poor throttle calibration.
