Fastest Cars Around the Nürburgring in 2025
The 2025 record attempts at the Nürburgring Nordschleife saw 14 official lap times set across 11 vehicle categories. An electric Chinese prototype clocked the fastest lap in 2025 and nine cars posted sub-seven-minute lap times. By: Julian Rael Gordon
The Nordschleife (“Northern loop”) of the Nürburgring in Germany pushes manufacturers’ cars to their limits. In 2025, 14 official lap times were recorded across 11 vehicle categories. While there were 20 record slots, rented by manufacturers for a day for a lap, six were ultimately not official. The laps were completed on both sections of the Nordschleife, where the full lap is 20.832 km and the shorter one is 20.6 km. The standard for record lap times is the former, measured with calibrated technology and supervised by TÜV Rheinland and a notary.

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Prototype, a Chinese electric prototype, clocked a lap time of 6:22.091 minutes, making it the fastest car around the Nordschleife in 2025. British driver David Pittard drove the Xiaomi on 1 April around the full lap. The second fastest lap was 6:43.482 minutes, clocked by the Ford F-150 Lightning SuperTruck – which claimed overall honours as fastest vehicle in the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed Hillclimb Shootout – with Romain Dumas behind the wheel on 5 August. At around six seconds slower, a pre-production Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X, driven by Drew Cattell on 24 June, set a time of at 6:49.275 minutes.
The fastest official lap ever recorded at the Nordschleife remains unbroken. In 2018, Timo Bernhard piloted a Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo racecar around the Green Hell in just 5:19.546 minutes.

Three internal combustion-engined (ICE) sportscars showed spectacular performances and handling with sub-seven-minute lap times. The fastest was the Ford Mustang GTD, which raced across the finish line in 6:52.072 minutes on 9 April. Behind it was a 992.2-generation Porsche 911 GT3 fitted with a Manthey Performance Kit. The latter crossed the line in 6:52.981 minutes on 7 November. Finally, a “standard” 992.2-generation Porsche 911 GT3, which we sampled at its international launch event in Spain in 2025, completed a lap in 6:56.294 minutes.
The fastest official lap at the Nordschleife in this category remains the one set in 2021, when Lars Kern raced a 991-generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS with a Manthey Performance Kit across the line in 6:43.300 minutes.

The BMW M2 CS, which is confirmed for SA in 2026, claimed the top spot in the compact-car category on 11 April with a 7:25.534-minute lap time. The SA-bound BMW M3 CS Touring is officially the fastest station wagon around the Nordschleife with a time of 7:29.490 minutes.
Managing Director of the Nürburgring Christian Stephani explains the “drives are much more than just a media-effective format: they are the culmination of a long technical development process and showcase the engineering achievements and performance capabilities of modern vehicles”. He added, “The diversity of the officially measured lap times in 2025 impressively demonstrates the role the Nordschleife plays for manufacturers worldwide.”
