Porsche has unveiled a unique recommissioned Carrera GT. As one of the German marque’s most revered models of the century, the mid-engined super sportscar has become extremely sought-after since its official launch, where we sampled it, in 2003. More than two decades later, Victor Gómez, the commissioning client from Puerto Rico, has had his 2005 Carrera GT reimagined by Porsche’s Sonderwunsch Manufaktur division.

Porsche’s special request division started the rebuild by completely disassembling the vehicle, re-coating all carbon-fibre parts and overhauling all mechanical components, including the V10 powertrain. Lastly, a transparent foil was fitted to protect the bespoke paint.

The exterior of this Carrera GT has been redesigned as part of the Sonderwunsch programme. As per Gómez’s request, the (originally silver) Carrera GT was refinished in the Salzburg design, which pays homage to the legendary livery that adorned the 1970 Le Mans-winning Porsche 917 entered by the Salzburg team. The red and white livery, adapted for the supercar’s unique shape, features the starting number ’23’, mirroring that of the winning car piloted to victory by Austrian duo Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood in the iconic endurance race. Contrasting matte black carbon-fibre can be found on the roof halves, A- and B-pillars, wing mirror caps, front air ducts and rear diffuser. The engine cover grilles are black matte anodised, while the original five-spoke 19-inch front and 20-inch aft alloy wheels are finished in black.

The individualised cabin includes Guards Red Alcantara trim for the dashboard, door panels, centre console and the steering wheel. Matte carbon-fibre also features on the seat shells, air vent covers, and dashboard components. The seats are wrapped in black FIA textile from the 918 Spyder.

As a reminder, at the heart of all 1 270 Carrera GT examples made was a lightweight 5.7-litre V10 engine, which was originally developed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race. The naturally aspirated petrol unit produces 450 kW and 590 N.m. The former is available from a howling 8 000 r/min.
