Every Toyota On the Horizon for SA in 2026: New Hilux, Land Cruiser FJ and more

We’ve rounded up every Toyota scheduled to launch in South Africa in 2026, including the New Hilux, Land Cruiser FJ and more.

As highlighted in our Cars for 2026 feature in the December 2025 issue, on the back of a successful 2025, 2026 looks set to be another busy year for Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM). Here’s a closer look at what this Japanese automaker’s local arm is planning to introduce over the next 12 months.

New Toyota Hilux

Finall reveal on 10 November 2025, the ninth-generation Toyota Hilux has been confirmed for South Africa. The latest Hilux will retain its tried and tested GD-6 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, which will also be available as a 48 V mild-hybrid powertrain.

Revealed ahead of the Tokyo Mobility Show, the new 4.5-metre-long Land Cruiser FJ is set to feature Toyota’s 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with the brand’s six-speed Super ECT automatic transmission churning out 120 kW and 246 N.m, sending power to all four corners via a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

Confirmed for an SA in the first half of 2026, the next-gen Toyota RAV4 ditches pure petrol for hybrid power. For the sixth-generation RAV4, buyers can choose between a 127 kW 2.5-litre mild-hybrid and a 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain. The latter is available in single and dual electric motor configurations, producing 200 kW and 227 kW, respectively. The mild-hybrid will also be available with the choice of front- and all-wheel drivetrains.

Much like the updated GR Yaris featured in our January Performance Issue, the updated GR Corolla is now fitted with an eight-speed Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT). Toyota’s pinnacle hot hatch is powered by an uprated 1.6-litre turbopetrol engine, producing 221 kW and 400 N.m, a 30 N.m increase compared to the outgoing model.

Revealed as a concept in October 2021, the bZ4x will launch in South Africa in 2026 as an all-electric family SUV. The bZ4x will be available in front- and all-wheel drive variants, both fitted with a 71.4 kWh battery pack. The former will produce 150 kW, while the all-paw derivative will deliver 160 kW with a 50:50 power split, front to rear.
