The 2025 electric Mercedes-Benz CLA was the safest car of 2025, tested by the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP). Given the title “Best Performer” by the crash-test organisation, it achieved the top rating of five stars and the top scores in all four safety disciplines during testing. The electric CLA was the safest in occupant protection for adults and children, protecting vulnerable road users and in safety assistants.
Jörg Burzer, Chief Technology Officer and responsible for Development and Procurement of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, says, “We have redesigned the CLA from the ground up. This also includes development or the safety features that are part of Mercedes’ DNA.” Prof. Dr. Paul Dick, Director of Safety and Accident Research at Mercedes-Benz AG, further adds that to protect occupants in a Mercedes-Benz and all road users, it required “develop[ing] and build[ing] state-of-the-art safety and assistance systems”.
This achievement also means that the electric CLA leads in the “Small Family Cars” category by Euro NCAP and follows the footsteps of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It too was named “Best Performer” in 2024 by the crash-test organisation. So, 2026 is beginning to be a strong year for Mercedes-Benz as the electric CLA was also crowned the 2026 European Car of the Year, 52 years since the automaker last won this title.
Euro NCAP is an independent organisation and is associated with the European transport ministries, automobile clubs and insurance associations. It conducts crash tests and comprehensive safety assessments of new models sold in the European markets.
