As we highlighted in Every Chinese car confirmed for SA in 2026, the iCAUR 30T is scheduled to launch in South Africa this year. Now, Chery’s new-energy sub-brand has detailed the engineering, testing, and manufacturing processes used in developing this all-electric off-roader.

Assembled at Chery’s South Smart Factory – which uses 100% automation in key processes, while all 105 critical welding points and 436 dimensional measurement points are inspected using an AI-based visual inspection system – the T03 undergoes several quality testing programmes, including in cold and heat, humidity, dust, and on uneven terrain to evaluate corrosion resistance, powertrain performance, sealing integrity, body rigidity, and long-term material stability.

The T03’s body structure is made of 6-series aluminium and is constructed using a combination of MIG arch welding, self-piercing riveting (SPR), flow-drill screw (FDS) fastening and laser deep fusion welding. All 237 critical structural connections are bonded using a non-thermal joining process, which is said to improve long-term durability and resistance to corrosion as opposed to conventional spot welding.

The T03’s all-aluminium bodywork measures 4 406 mm in length, 1 910 mm in width, and 1 715 mm in height. The wheelbase spans 2 715 mm. The (unladen) ground clearance is rated at 195 mm. iCAUR quotes a water-wading depth of 450 mm, and approach and departure angles of 28 and 32 degrees, respectively.

The T03’s dual electric-motor powertrain produces 205 kW and 385 N.m of torque – good for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 6.5 seconds. According to the brand, the 69.8 kWh lithium-iron phosphate allows for an operating range of 418 km on a full charge.

In addition to the T03, iCAUR will also launch the V23 and V27 in our market in 2026.
