In 2026, Suzuki SA is set to expand its local SUV portfolio with the introduction of the Across. Now, while the exact launch date remains unconfirmed, the local arm of the Japanese automaker has announced that the compact SUV is “coming soon”. The Across, also known as the Victoris in the Indian market, is produced at Maruti Suzuki’s Kharkhoda, Haryana factory in India. Locally, the Across will be positioned above the Grand Vitara as the firm’s flagship model offering.

The Across measures 4 360 mm in length and 1 655 mm in height, making it longer and taller than the Grand Vitara. However, it shares the latter model’s width and wheelbase measurements – 1 795 mm and 2 600 mm, respectively.

While local specification has yet to be confirmed, the Across is available with the choice of two trim grades in other markets, such as the UK. This includes GL and GLX. Sounds familiar? Well, that’s because these levels of specification are already offered locally with several Suzuki products.

As standard, the Across in GL spec ships with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto screen mirroring, a six-speaker sound system, a rear-view camera, and keyless entry and start. On top of the latter equipment, GLX specification gains such items as a head-up display, wireless smartphone charging tray, an eight-speaker audio system, 360-degree surround-view camera, 64-colour ambient lighting, ventilated front seats and an electrically operated tailgate.

Revealed with two powertrains, we expect the local Across lineup will exclusively employ Suzuki’s (K15C Dualjet) 1.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine, supported by the firm’s 12 V SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology. The mild-hybrid powertrain produces maximum outputs of 76 kW and 139 N.m, and is mated with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission – the latter paired with either a front-wheel drivetrain or the carmaker’s AllGrip Select all-wheel drivetrain.
