Announced at Volkswagen Group Africa’s 2026 Indaba, the German automaker’s local arm has re-entered the South African light duty vehicle (LDV) segment with the introduction of the Polo Vivo Xpress panel van. According to the firm, this comes as a response to the “noticeable” growth in the local entry-level delivery-vehicle segment over the past few years. The Polo Vivo Xpress offers a payload capacity of 490 kg.

VW Polo Vivo Xpress Price in SA

Locally built, the Xpress is exclusively available with a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine producing the same amount of power and torque as the 1.4-litre Life variant – 63 kW and 132 N.m – which we evaluated for a road test in 2024. Available from 5 000 and 3 750 r/min, respectively, the former and latter are exclusively delivered to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

VW claims an average fuel consumption of 5.9 L/100 km, which translates to a driving range of just over 760 km from a full 45-litre tank of fuel. Tipping the scales at a claimed 1 097 kg, the panel van dispatches the 0-100 km/h sprint in 12.2 seconds, VW says.
