Top 5 best-selling Chinese car brands in SA – April 2026

We’ve rounded up the top five best-selling Chinese car brands in South Africa in April 2026. See the list below…

In April 2026, 47 979 new vehicles were sold in South Africa. Of the latter figure, the passenger-car and light commercial vehicle (LCV) segments accounted for 34 414 and 10 966 units sold, respectively. Now, we take a closer look at the five Chinese automakers that performed best in the fourth month of 2026. (It is worth noting that, for this list, we’ve listed the subsidiaries of each company individually. For example, GWM and Haval, and Chery and Omoda & Jaecoo.)

5. GWM – 719

Despite a 305-unit decline (compared to March 2026) in sales in April 2026, GWM retained its position as the fifth best-selling Chinese car brand in the fourth month of the new year. The P-Series, which claimed fourth spot among the best-selling bakkies in SA in April 2026, was once again the best-selling GWM-branded product, with 588 units sold. Two new Steed bakkies, five Tank 500s and 153 Tank 300s found homes in April 2026.

4. Omoda & Jaecoo – 1 383

Omoda & Jaecoo recorded a total number of 1 383 new vehicles sold in April 2026. The Omoda C5 once again emerged as this Chery subsidiary’s best-selling model, with the 884 units sold accounting for 63.9% of the brand’s overall sales. (As a reminder, in April 2026, the C5 SHS hybrid joined the local C5 lineup.) The Jaecoo J5, of which the hybrid variant has been confirmed to launch in SA in 2026, and J7 registered 243 and 133 units sold, respectively. The Omoda C7 recorded 73 units sold, while 50 units of the brand’s C9 flagship SUV found homes in April 2026.

3. Haval – 1 736

The Jolion continued to lead Haval’s local sales charge in April 2026, with the 1 277 new units sold representing 73.5% of the Boading-based brand’s total sales. As a reminder, the larger Jolion Max has been confirmed for our market, and will launch here in the second half of this year. The H6 and H7 followed with 413 and 46 units sold, respectively.

2. Jetour – 1 804

Jetour retained second spot among the best-selling Chinese car brands in SA in April 2026. In the fourth month of the year, 1 804 new Jetour products left showroom floors; an increase of 36 units over March 2026. Unsurprisingly, the T2 – which we sampled in March 2026 and is destined to be built in SA alongside the T1 from 2027 – dominated the firm’s April 2026 sales, with 1 004 units sold. The Dashing was the brand’s second best-selling model, with the 305 units sold placing it ahead of the T1 (299 units sold) and X70 Plus (196 units sold).

1. Chery – 2 462
