Earlier in 2026, Renault revealed the updated, India-built Duster. Confirmed for SA, thanks to the folks at AutoCar India, we can now report that the first shipment, comprising 750 units, of this model has left the automaker’s Chennai production facility and will arrive on local shores soon. Chennai is also where the SA-bound Nissan Tekton, which shares its underpinnings with the Duster, will be built. Said CEO of Renault Group India Stephane Deblaise, “As Renault continues to expand its international footprint, India will play an increasingly strategic role in our future plans.”
The updated Duster is the first product built on the Renault Group Modular Platform (RGMP) and has secured a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating across all variants. The refreshed model is available with the choice of three powertrains: Turbo TCe 100, Turbo TCe 160 and E-Tech 160. The latter hybrid unit pairs a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine with two electric motors, fed by a 1.4 kWh battery, for a combined power and torwue output of 118 kW and 172 N.m.
Turbo TCe 100 and Turbo TCe 160 are petrol-only. The former, 1.0-litre three-pot produces 74 kW and 160 N.m of torque, while the TCe 160 1.3-litre four-cylinder is endowed with a healthier 118 kW and 280 N.m. The Turbo TCe 100 is exclusively available with a six-speed manual gearbox, while the TCe 160 unit can be had with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
In February 2026, Renault also announced a new 4×4 hybrid powertrain option, which features 48 V mild-hybrid technology. The latter setup produces combined power and torque outputs of 110 kW and 230 N.m. An electric motor provides an additional 87 N.m. Compared to the other powertrains, the petrol-electric unit is coupled with all-wheel drive.
