We detail the local new Hilux model range.
New Toyota Hilux lineup
Listed on Toyota SA’s website, the local new Hilux lineup comprises seven derivatives across two body styles – double-cab and Xtra Cab. All models are equipped with the Japanese marque’s proven 2.8GD-6 powertrain, with the flagship double-cab variants incorporating 48 V mild-hybrid tech. Toyota has yet to announce the ninth-generation single-cab variants for our market.
New Toyota Hilux specifications
Double-cab
The five-strong double-cab range kicks off with SRX spec. The entry-level model, which is available in 4×2 and 4×4 guise, is equipped with a set of 17-inch steel wheels housing disc and drum brakes, front and rear. LED headlamps are standard. Stepping inside, the cloth-upholstered front pews are manually adjustable, including for height for the driver’s item. Analogue instrumentation are sited fore the steering wheel, which offers rake-and-reach adjustability. Further included with the SRX package are 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment, a four-speaker audio system, and USB-C charging ports. Safety-wise, SRX spec features seven airbags, ABS with EBD (electronic brake force distribution), brake assist and stability control.
Positioned between the SRX and flagship, Legend models, the single Raider model in the lineup is exclusively 4×4. The mid-spec variant rolls on 17-inch alloy wheels and features LED head- and taillamps. The Raider’s door handles and wing mirror housings are finished in gloss black. A front spoiler is also present. Inside, the Raider gains keyless ignition, leather trim for the steering wheel and gear lever, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital tachometer, dual-zone climate control, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. The Raider also features cruise control, a rear-view camera supplemented by fore and aft park distance sensors, and tyre pressure monitoring. Downhill assist control (DAC) and Toyota’s Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) traction control system are included. MTS regulates throttle and braking parameters to regulate wheelspin and improve traction on various surfaces. In addition to an ‘Automatic’ setting that detects traction and terrain shifts, the system also incorporates selectable ‘Mud & Sand’, ‘Rock/Dirt’ and ‘Deep snow’ presets.
Spearheading the lineup, the Legend upgrades to 18-inch alloy wheels and aft disc brakes, and features stop-start functionality, automatic folding wing mirrors, rear privacy glass, and a styling bar. The Legend also gains electric power steering – a first for a Hilux – and an electronic parking brake. The driver’s pew offers electric adjustment and lumbar support. The Legend further plays host to leather upholstery, 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, a nine-speaker JBL sound system, and an electrochromatic rear view mirror. Both the 4×2 and 4×4 Legend derivatives adopt Toyota’s Safety Sense 3.0. The latter package includes adaptive cruise control, a brake-synchronised pre-crash system, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert and braking. A 360-degree surround-view camera setup is also present. The 4×4 Legend gains Toyota’s MTS and DAC.
Exclusive to the Xtra Cab, Raider X spec can be had with the choice of 4×2 and 4×4 drivetrain options. The package largerly includes similar spec as mentioned above, though features an eight-speaker audio system and goes without a styling bar as standard.

All trims have independent coil-spring front/rigid-axle leaf-spring rear suspension setups.
