Since 1999, Cape Advanced Vehicles (CAV) has been a source of locally produced Ford GT-inspired recreations. Now, the Cape Town-based company has added a new model to its lineup, dubbed the GT MKII – a modern take on the original Le Mans-winning GT40 racecar.
The GT MKII’s exterior design largely remains faithful to the original GT40. The livery on the “60th Anniversary” launch model is also reminiscent of the Gulf GT40. Built from modern materials, the GT MKII’s body is made from carbon fibre, while the spaceframe is fashioned from the latter lightweight material and aluminium. The donor car is said to come in the form of an Audi R8. CAV also added KW three-way adjustable dampers for the suspension, Brembo brakes, and an Inconel exhaust system.
Tipping the scales at a claimed 1 350 kg, the CAV GT MKII is powered by a 4.2-litre twin-supercharged V8 producing 596 kW and 880 N.m of torque, delivered to the road via an all-wheel drivetrain – the latter paired with either a six-speed automated manual, a dual-clutch transmission or, for the purists, a manual gearbox. According to the brand, the GT MKII completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 3.0 seconds on to a top speed of 330 km/h.
CAV has not yet set a price on the “60th Anniversary” launch units. However, only 40 examples will be built.
