As we highlighted in Every bakkie confirmed for SA in 2026, Volkswagen is set to introduce the Walkinshaw-developed Amarok W600 to our market in the fourth quarter of 2026. However, at the time, VW had yet to fully reveal this new model. Well, the German marque has now officially whipped the wraps off the Amarok W600. We highlight what you can expect from the SA-bound Amarok Walkinshaw W600.
The Amarok W600 is based on the Style derivative, though is set apart from the latter model via the fitment of several bespoke exterior and interior design elements, and uprated suspension – the latter for improved handling on tarmac. The W600 adopts a 22 mm rear anti-roll bar and Walkinshaw-tuned Koni shock absorbers and dampers. The Amarok W600 is fitted with a set of model-specific 18-inch matte black ‘Amadora’ alloy wheels, shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tyres.
Exterior styling includes a revised front bumper and wheel arches, a body-coloured sports bar and, of course, Walkinshaw badging. The package also includes power-retractable side steps and a side-exit exhaust system. Five exterior hues will be available. The colour palette includes white, metallic silver, metallic grey, metallic black, and Deep Red Metallic.
Inside, the Amarok W600 receives Walkinshaw-branded door sills and aluminium sports pedals, as well as embroidered headrests and floor mats adorning the Walkinshaw logo. The W600 sports 10-way electrically adjustable Savona leather-trimmed seats, replete with heating functionality. The cabin also features a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, a wireless smartphone charging tray, and an eight-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
The Amarok W600 is powered by a 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 producing 184 kW and 600 N.m of torque. The Ford-sourced powertrain is coupled with a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Local pricing is expected to be announced closer to the local launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. It is worth noting that the Amarok W600 is intended as a regular production halo model rather than a limited-run special edition.
