GWM Ora 5: price and specs

In March 2026, we reported that the GWM Ora 5 compact SUV is heading to our market, with the local lineup set to include three powertrain options – internal combustion engine-only (ICE), hybrid (HEV), and battery-electric (BEV). The Ora 5 has now officially arrived in South Africa, with the range comprising six derivatives.

The ICE-only Ora 5 is powered by a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing 105 kW and 210 N.m of torque – the latter exclusively delivered to the front wheels via a dual-clutch transmission. GWM claims an average fuel consumption of 7.15 L/100 km. The HEV variant pairs the latter, 1.5-litre mill with a single electric motor, fed by a 1.09 kWh battery. The petrol-electric Ora 5 produces a healthier 164 kW and 476 N.m. The Ora 5 BEV is equipped with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor developing 150 kW and 260 N.m of torque. The Chinese automaker says the BEV derivative’s 58.33 kWh NMC (nickel manganese cobalt) battery pack offers an operating range of up to 520 km on a single, full charge.

Pricing for the ICE-only GWM Ora 5 kicks off at R364 900, with the HEV and BEV priced from R424 900 and R549 900, respectively.

Toyota South Africa Motors has handed the Starlet and Starlet Cross a round of safety updates, while introducing a new service plan to these hatchback and compact-crossover packages. Image: Toyota In a bid to reinforce the brand’s commitment to safety and value, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has handed the entry-level and mid-tier Starlet and Starlet Cross packages a round of upgrades. With the latter, Xi- and Xs-spec Starlet derivatives, along with Xs-grade Starlet Cross variants, gain side and curtain airbags (on top of the existing driver and front passenger items).
