New VW Caravelle officially launches in SA: price and specs

Following Volkswagen South Africa’s 2026 Indaba, the German automaker’s local arm opened pre-orders for the all-new T7 Multivan Caravelle. Well, the box-fresh model – exclusively available in eHybrid format – has now officially launched in our market.
The T7 Multivan Caravelle eHybrid’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain comprises a (130 kW/250 N.m) 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a single electric motor – the latter integrated into the six-speed dual-clutch transmission for a combined system output of 180 kW and 350 N.m of torque. Power is delivered to the road via VW’s eHybrid 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. The PHEV setup features a 19.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack offering a claimed electric-only operating range of 95 km on a single, full charge. The Wolfsburg brand claims a combined driving range of “up to” 700 km.

The Caravelle eHybrid is priced from R1 794 000. Included with the price as standard are a three-year/120 000 km vehicle warranty, eight-year/160 000 km battery warranty, and a maintenance plan spanning five years or 100 000 km.
Standard equipment includes VW’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro instrumentation, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment incorporating wireless smartphone screen mirroring, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, three-zone climate control, and 30-colour ambient lighting. The firm’s IQ. Light LED matrix headlamps are also present. The seven-seater people-mover also features adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and Park Assist with front and rear park distance control.
