BAIC South Africa has joined forces with Springbok prop Thomas du Toit, who was handed the keys to a brand-new B30. The vehicle partnership between Du Toit and the Chinese automaker aims to show commitment to SA “excellence” through those who embody the brand’s values of “resilience, determination and performance”. This push for engagement with the broader public forms part of BAIC SA’s strategy to grow its presence in the local market by focusing on success stories like Du Toit’s. BAIC’s local arm hopes to achieve meaningful connections with the broader public through this strategy.

In return for the B30, Du Toit will provide first-hand experience on social media of the vehicle’s capabilities. BAIC SA hopes this will provide the public with an “authentic” demonstration of how the locally assembled B30 complements an active lifestyle like Du Toit’s.

As a reminder, the local B30 lineup comprises four derivatives, available with the choice of three powertrain options – 138 kW/305 N.m 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and a duo of 1.5-litre hybrids in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations, respectively. The former produces combined system outputs of 246 kW and 550 N.m, while the latter is endowed with 301 kW and 685 N.m. On our test strip, the most powerful derivative in the range – the B30e HEV AWD – completed the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7.15 seconds.
