According to naamsa, the Automotive Business Council of South Africa, a total of 33 879 new vehicles were exported in June 2026, a 2 498-unit decrease compared to the 36 377 units exported in June 2025. Despite the year-on-year decrease, last month represented a significant increase of 4 487 units over the 29 392 vehicles exported in May 2026.
In June 2026, Volkswagen Group South Africa remained the largest vehicle exporter in SA, despite a slight decrease in units exported. Naamsa reported that 10 396 units were exported from the Wolfsburg brand’s Kariega Plant in the Eastern Cape, where the Polo and Polo GTI are exclusively produced for local and global markets. This marks a 114-unit decrease compared to the 10 510 units exported in the previous month. BMW retained second position, with a total of 6 630 units exported from its Rosslyn Plant, near Pretoria, where the fourth-generation BMW X3 (G45) has been produced since October 2024. The latter figure represents a 330-unit increase compared to May 2026.
Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM), which topped the chart of best-selling cars brand in SA in June 2026, shot up to third position last month, with 5 407 exports – a substantial increase of 3 651 units. Mercedes-Benz SA was the fourth largest vehicle exporter in SA in the sixth month of the year, with the local arm of the German marque registering 5 100 units exported. Ford Motor Company was relegated to fifth place, despite registering a total of 4 752 units – an increase of 741 – exported in June 2026.
