Strengthening its position as best-selling car brand in SA, Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) recorded an increase in monthly sales figures in June 2026. The local arm of the Japanese automaker sold a total of 12 417 new vehicles; representing an increase of 2 229 vehicles compared to April 2026. TSAM’s aggregate June 2026 sales figure represents 22.8% of the total market share.

In the sixth month of the year, 5 852 new Toyota passenger vehicles left showroom floors. The firm’s strongest performer in the passenger-car segment was the Corolla Cross (1 356 units), followed by the Urban Cruiser (1 174 units), Starlet (968 units), Vitz (921 units) and Fortuner (726 units). The new RAV4 and Land Cruiser FJ recorded 355 and 264 units sold, respectively. Toyota’s luxury arm, Lexus, sold 106 units in June. Lexus’ best-sellers were the GX (36 units), NX (34 units) and LX (18 units).

Retaining the lead as SA’s best-selling bakkie, in the light commercial vehicle segment (LCV), 3 464 new Hilux bakkies, of which we sampled the Legend derivative in Namibia, were sold. This figure signifies an increase of 509 units over April 2026. Other LCVs contributing to the increase in sales include the Hiace (591 units), Land Cruiser 79 Series (462 units), Quantum (97 units) and the Coaster (96 units). Medium and heavy commercial vehicles from the Hino brand shifted a total of 229 units in June 2026. Toyota’s parts division supplied nearly two million parts locally, with a sizeable increase in exported parts amassing 411 649 units.

“Toyota’s performance in June reflects the strength and relevance of our product offering and our ability to respond to evolving customer needs across segments. An increase in our market share is a significant milestone for us. I am therefore proud of what our teams have been able to achieve and grateful to our growing customer base for their support,” said Leon Theron, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at TSAM.
