2027 Hyundai Tucson hybrid powertrain revealed

Following the unveiling of the next-generation Tucson, Hyundai has revealed powertrain specs for the hybrid model.

Designed around Hyundai’s new ‘Art of Steel’ design language, the new Tucson was revealed in August 2026. However, at the time, the South Korean automaker remained tight-lipped about the powertrains the fifth iteration will employ. So, we could only hazard a guess that the box-fresh Tucson will at least be offered with a similar setup as the current Santa Fe – a 1.6-litre hybrid. As a reminder, the latter unit produces combined power and torque outputs of 175 kW and 367 N.m, delivered to the road via an all-wheel drivetrain.

While the engine lineup remains largely unconfirmed, the company has now released details surrounding the hybrid version of the box-fresh generation. As reported by Australian publication CarExpert, Hyundai revealed the new hybrid derivative’s powertrain specs at its CEO Investor Day in South Korea.

The 2027 Tucson Hybrid will be equipped with Hyundai’s new TMED-II FF powertrain, which pairs a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with two electric motors. The hybrid arrangement produces a combined system output of 180 kW and 380 N.m of torque, making it 5 kW and 13 N.m more powerful than the setup employed by the Santa Fe.

According to Hyundai, the Tucson Hybrid returns an average fuel consumption of 5.7 L/100 km. The 0-100 km/h sprint time is quoted at 8.5 seconds.

Compared to the current, fourth-generation Tucson, which was one of the 14 highest-scoring vehicles tested by CAR magazine in 2025 and claimed top honours in our August 2026-issue SUV Shootout, the new model is 60 mm longer, 40 mm wider, and 20 mm taller. The new Tucson is also longer and wider than the Toyota RAV4, VW Tiguan, Kia Sportage, and recently introduced new Mazda CX-5. The wheelbase has increased, too – up 40 mm to 2 785 mm.
