Leapmotor has expanded its local model portfolio with the B10 REEV (range-extended electric vehicle). Positioned below the C10 REEV, which we sampled in October 2025, the newcomer is available in two trim levels, with a single powertrain option employed across the range. 

Based on Leapmotor’s LEAP 3.5 architecture, the C10 REEV measures 4 515 mm in length and 1 873 mm in width. The wheelbase spans 2 735 mm. The C10 REEV’s new-energy powertrain comprises a single, rear-mounted electric motor and 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine – the latter serving as a generator for the 18.8 kWh battery pack. The REEV setup produces 158 kW and 240 N.m of torque – good for a claimed 0-100 km/h sprint time of 7.5 seconds and 170 km/h top speed. The Chinese automaker claims a combined fuel consumption of 0.9 L/100 km, electric-only operating range of up to 86 km, and a combined driving range of 900 km from a fully charged battery and full 50-litre tank of fuel.

Joining the list of most affordable plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles in SA, the Leapmotor B10 REEV is priced from R499 900 for the entry-level, Style variant and R549 900 for the flagship, Design model. Included in the price are a five-year/100 000 km vehicle warranty, eight-year/150 000 km battery warranty, and a five-year/100 000 km service plan.

Stepping inside, the B10 REEV’s cabin plays host to 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 8.8-inch LCD digital instrumentation, a wireless smartphone charging tray, and a panoramic sunroof. Similar to the C10 REEV, the cabin is accessed via an NFC card. However, owners can also lock/unlock the car via the Leapmotor App, as well as check available range and initiate over-the-air (OTA) updates. Both models – Style and Design – feature an array of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The B10 REEV boasts a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

We have rounded up the top ten most dependable car brands based on a recent study by J.D. Power, ranking vehicle reliability based on the number of problems per 100 vehicles. Image: Lexus Global market research and consumer insights company J.D. Power has recently released its 2026 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study, which identifies the most dependable vehicles based on overall problems per 100 vehicles during the first 90 days of ownership over nine problem categories. The 2026 results show a two-point increase in problems per 100 vehicles (PP100), resulting in an industry average of 204 PP100. In other words, A score of 204 PP100 means that, on average, owners reported 2.04 issues per car. A lower score indicates better vehicle quality, and vice versa.
