Mahindra Bolero MaXX Pik-Up launched as sub-R200k bakkie

Mahindra has expanded its local work-focused single-cab portfolio with the introduction of the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up. The Bolero MaXX is positioned below the Bolero Maxitruck, and Pik-Up S4 and S6 single-cab bakkies in the Indian automaker’s South African model lineup. At launch, the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up is one of the most affordable single-cab bakkies in SA.

Three variants are available: 1.3 City, 1.5 City and 1.7 HD. As their model denominations would suggest, these models offer respective payload capacities of 1.3, 1.5, and 1.7 tonnes. The 1.3 City has a gross combination mass (GCM) of up to 2 804 kg. This model measures 4 800 mm in length, with a wheelbase spanning 3 150 mm. The load bed measures 2 500 mm long. The 1.5 City has a GCM of 3 090 kg. Compared to the 1.3 City, this derivative is 140 mm longer, front to rear, and features a 115 mm increase in wheelbase. The 1.7 HD has a GCM of 3 418 kg. The 1.7 HD sports 405 mm longer bodywork and 25 increase in wheelbase.

The Bolero MaXX Pik-Up employs Mahindra’s m2Di 2.5-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine available in two states of tune: 52 kW/200 N.m in the 1.3 City and 1.5 City, and 60 kW/220 N.m in the 1.7 HD variant. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Mahindra claims the Bolero MaXX Pik-Up returns 5.9 L/100 km.

All models feature a three-seater configuration, with the pews upholstered in cloth. However, the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD gain a stain-resistant coating, along with several other items such as rake-and-reach adjustment for the steering wheel, air conditioning, lockable cooled cubby, cup holders, cabin lamps, and a 12 V power socket. In terms of safety, rear parking sensors are standard across the range, while ABS is present on 1.5 City and 1.7 HD models.

The Bolero MaXX Pik-Up is priced from R199 000 for the entry-level, 1.3 City variant, while the 1.5 City and 1.7 HD start from R229 000 and R259 000, respectively. All models are backed by a four-year/120 000 km warranty and roadside assistance. A service plan is available as an option.
