Gordon Murray Special Vehicles has revealed the S1 supercar at The Quail during the 2026 Monterey Car Week. Serving as the spiritual successor to the legendary McLaren F1, penned by Gordon Murray, production of the British automaker’s new touring-focused supercar is strictly capped at 64 units.
At its core is a bespoke 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V12 that revs to a howling 12 100 r/min. Producing 508 kW and 500 N.m of torque, with the full complement of the latter available from 7 000 r/min, the Cosworth co-developed unit delivers power to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission engineered to offer a tactile “rifle-bolt” shift feel. The engine bay houses a polished Inconel exhaust setup alongside a 24-carat gold-plated heat shield. Built on a lightweight carbon-fibre monocoque derived from the S1 LM platform, the S1 achieves an overall kerb weight of less than 997 kg.
Designed for fast, long-distance road driving, the S1 exchanges the LM’s large, fixed rear wing, deep side skirts, and aggressive front splitter for new carbon-fibre bodywork integrating a fresh active rear aerodynamics system. A revised lighting setup, front and rear, distinguishes the S1’s visual signature, complemented by lightweight wheels inspired by Murray’s 1992 Monaco show car. To enhance everyday usability, the chassis features a 10 mm increase in ride height compared to the LM and a suspension arrangement tuned for compliant road-going mechanical grip.
Inside, the signature three-seat layout is retained. The cabin features premium leather and fabric upholstery, upgraded acoustic insulation, revised digital displays, and a bespoke lightweight audio system.
Said Professor Gordon Murray CBE, Group Executive Chairman, “With the S1, we wanted to show how much beauty and purity there is in this design when the more extreme aerodynamic elements of the S1 LM are stripped away. It has the same intensity, response, and engineering integrity, but has been tuned for a different purpose. This is a car you could drive along the coast from Los Angeles to Monterey in real comfort, still enjoying every gearshift, every corner, and every note of the V12 when the road opens up. It is exclusive, analogue, and deeply driver-focused, but also more elegant, more refined, and more usable over distance.”
While Gordon Murray Automotive has not revealed pricing for the S1, the firm has stated that all 64 units have already been allocated.
