Renault South Africa has introduced the updated Duster to our market. The revised model is built at Renault’s Chennai Plant in India and is underpinned by the firm’s new CMF-B modular platform. The Duster’s bodywork measures 4 343 mm in length, 1 813 mm in width, 1 656 mm in height, and 2 657 mm between front and rear axles. The refreshed Duster has a ground clearance of 212 mm. The new model is 3 mm longer, 35 mm narrower and 3 mm shorter than the outgoing variant.

Buyers can choose between two powertrain options. The first is a 1.3-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol developing 116 kW and 260 N.m – the latter delivered to the front wheels via either a six-speed manual or six-speed dual-clutch transmission (EDC). The second is a 1.0-litre turbo-triple petrol engine producing 74kW and 160 N.m. The less powerful unit is exclusively coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Duster is priced from R339 999 for the 1.0-litre-powered Evolution, while the 1.3-litre-powered Evolution starts from R379 999. The Techno, Techno+ and Iconic derivatives are priced from R399 999, R439 999 and R499 999, respectively. In comparison, the outgoing Duster started from R489 999. Included in the price are a five-year/150 000 km warranty and a three-year/45 000 km service plan.

The Duster is available in four flavours: Evolution, Techno, Techno+ and Iconic. Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, auto-on headlamps, LED daytime-running lights, LED taillamps, and a roof rack with 50 kg load capacity. The interior is fitted with a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, replete with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7.0-inch digital instrumentation, a six-speaker audio system, four USB-C ports, rear-view camera and park distance sensors, cruise control, six airbags and tyre pressure monitoring.

The load capacity has been improved over the outgoing, Romanian-built model. The new Duster offers 518 litres of boot space, 700 litres when measured to the roofline, and 1 789 litres of cargo space with the second row stowed away. This represents 46-, 106- and 180-litre increases over the previous Duster, respectively.
