The Nissan Tekton has officially launched in South Africa, with the Japanese automaker’s local arm revealing pricing and specs for its Renault Duster-based compact SUV. See pricing below…

Similar to its Renault Duster step-sibling, the Nissan Tekton is available with the choice of two turbocharged petrol engine options: 1.0-litre three-cylinder (T160) and 1.3-litre four-cylinder (T280). Exclusively coupled with a six-speed manual gearbox, the T160 unit produces 74 kW and 160 N.m of torque. The T280 powertrain produces 115 kW and 260 N.m, the latter delivered to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Nissan claims average fuel consumption figures of 5.9 and 6.3 L/100 km for the T160 and T280, respectively. The T160- and T280-equipped models complete the 0-100 km/h sprint in 12.46 and 9.89 seconds, respectively, the Japanese automaker says. The respective claimed top speeds of the former and latter are 170 and 198 km/h.

Nissan Tekton price in South Africa

The five-strong local Tekton range is priced from R339 999 for the entry-level, Visia model equipped with a manual gearbox to R529 999 for the Tekna+ flagship. Bookended by the former and latter variants, the Visia featuring an automatic transmission, Acenta, and Tekna are priced from R399 999, R459 999, and R499 999. As standard, all models ship with Nissan’s four-year/60 000 km service plan and a six-year/150 000 km warranty.

As standard, all models ship with LED headlamps, replete with high and low beam, and daytime-running lights. Visia-spec includes 17-inch steel wheels, with the remaining variants upgrading to 18-inch alloys (diamond-cut on the Tekna and Tekna+).

All models feature 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment, replete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Visia grade is equipped with 7.0-inch digital instrumentation. A 10.25-inch TFT driver’s display is present from Acenta trim and up. The latter models also gain a six-speaker Arkamys Auditorium audio system (the Visia is fitted with a four-speaker Arkamys Classic unit).

Rear park distance sensors are standard fitment across the board, with Acenta, Tekna, and Tekna+ gaining front items as well. While the Visia includes a rear-view camera system, the remaining models feature a multi-view setup. Six airbags, ABS with EBD and EBA, and ESC are standard on all Tekton variants. Isofix child-seat anchorages can be found on the Tekna and Tekna+.

The Tekton measures 4 349 mm in length (up 3 mm over the Duster) and 1 815 mm in width. The Tekton stands 1 674 mm tall (including roof rails), with a 212 mm ground clearance. The wheelbase spans 2 657 mm. Nissan claims a boot capacity of 518 litres, which expands to 1 789 litres when folding down the rear seatbacks. While the unbraked towing capacity for the T160 variant isn’t listed on the local brochure, the T280’s unbraked towing capacity is listed as 750 kg.
