Nissan South Africa has introduced a new service campaign to support out-of-warranty workhorse bakkies. The initiative focuses on the Nissan NP300 Hardbody and NP200 ranges, both of which were discontinued in South Africa in recent years. It also expands access to affordable, factory-validated Nissan Value Advantage Parts and dedicated servicing kits nationwide. The Japanese brand’s local arm has partnered with the Motor Industry Workshop Association to widen this operational footprint. Doing so enables independent motor repair centres to supply and fit these components alongside official dealerships.

The campaign provides tailored major and minor servicing kits, as well as standalone filters, specifically designed for out-of-warranty models. The coverage covers the NP300 Hardbody and entire NP200 catalogues. For the former, this includes the entry-level 8-valve petrol engines, 16-valve variants, and the 1.5 dCi turbodiesel engines. Although factory production for both vehicle ranges has ended, thousands of these bakkies remain in daily commercial and personal operation across South African roads.
Juan Wheeler, Managing Director of Nissan South Africa, emphasised the company’s commitment to supporting owners whose vehicles have exceeded their original factory warranty periods. He noted that the expansive dealership network ensures that the majority of motorists reside within 25 minutes of an authorised outlet. Workshop mechanics also gain access to a dedicated technical support line and direct factory backing thanks to this collaboration. This ensures that replacement parts now meet strict manufacturer specifications.
Freddie Louw, Aftersales General Manager at Nissan South Africa, highlighted that long-term reliability and accessible maintenance reflect the true measure of a vehicle’s success. All Value Advantage components carry full warranty support directly from Nissan. This initiative allows motor mechanics and independent workshops to maintain vehicle integrity, provide customer choice, and offer cost-effective servicing solutions. The NP300 Hardbody and NP200 remain essential commercial workhorses, so keeping them fully operational is important for local industries.
Why Nissan discontinued the NP300 Hardbody and NP200 despite high demand

The discontinuation of the NP300 Hardbody and NP200 bakkies in South Africa were caused by operational realignments at Nissan’s Rosslyn plant. (As a reminder, the latter factory is now under the ownership of Chinese automaker Chery, who has confirmed local production of the Tiggo Cross, among other products, from 2027.) Nissan also noted aging vehicle architectures and external geopolitical disruptions. After a lengthy production run, the firm phased out local production of the NP300 Hardbody in late 2021 to retool and free up plant capacity for the D23-generation Navara. The South African-specific bakkie range also faced mounting concerns over the NP300 Hardbody’s outdated safety ratings.
The NP200 half-tonne bakkie reached the end of its 16-year production run in March 2024. There was an understanding that Nissan originally planned to replace the aging NP200 with a new sub-tonne model built on a Renault platform. A report by Reuters revealed that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine forced the manufacturer to cancel the project owing to the geopolitical situation surrounding this facility, ultimately leaving the NP200 without an immediate successor.
