2022 to be the year of Lamborghini’s last pure gasoline powered cars

The raging bull would seem less of a terror if it did not flare its nostrils and make audible grunts in a huff of fury when challenging Matadors in the stadiums of Pamplona. Well, the same can be said about the mythical automotive brand that has the raging bull fashioned onto their logo but 2022 is to be the year of Lamborghini’s last pure gasoline powered cars.

The last pure V12 swan song from the Raging Bull found in the Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae.

2022 will be a busy year for the Italian brand with the intended release of four new products. While this sounds like good news for fossil fuel loving enthusiasts, it is in preparation for Lamborghini’s move into hybrid and electric technology. Ending 2021 off with a personal sales record of 8 405 cars delivered in the year, Lamborghini must be doing something right after the sought after Urus SUV accounted for nearly 60% of those sales.

We can expect a mid-cycle refresh of the sales staggering Urus this year.

“In 2022 we’ll be doing our utmost to consolidate the current performance and get ready for the arrival of our future hybrid range from 2023 onwards,” Lamborghini’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann ambiguously said.

The bygone era of enormous engines that had the ability to move people, literally and figuratively.

While no information on the new products has been provided we can possibly expect an Urus mid-cycle refresh as well as the 10 year old Aventador replacement to break cover after spy shots caught it testing at the end of 2021. The Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae being the last edition of its kind and last pure V12 from the brand after launch in the middle of last year. The two other reveals? Your guess is as good as ours.

Back onto the topic of 2022 to be the year of Lamborghini’s last pure gasoline powered cars. While this too remains a mystery after Winkelmann’s tight lipped comments on the future of the passion orientated brand, there are plans to introduce hybrid powertrains across the board by 2024 after the Lamborghini Sián became the first to offer electric assistance. The Countach reboot also employs an Ibrido” powertrain. Lamborghini also has a fully electric model which is set to arrive in 2025 which is going to be a tough sell for customers that adore the infamous sound of a V12 petrol engine.

Lamborghini have been tight lipped on the Aventador’s replacement.

With the might of the VW Group behind them, 1.5 billion euros have been allocated for the transition to plug-in hybrids from as early as next year so this is the last opportunity to own one of Lamborghini’s last pure gasoline powered cars.
