Summer heat beating down onto the coarse tarmac facing the Atlantic seaboard, each of the CAR Mag champions took to the strip to prove their mettle – without skipping a beat. With Western Cape roadworks adding a few extra minutes to our travel time to the remote location, the entire team was itching to see which cars would set the best real-world times. With a brimmed shootout schedule of cars pitted against each other, the sunrise-to-sunset high-octane action passed by at an inconceivable rate. Quantitative measurements determining the victor of the day, it was time to allow certain models in the lineup to resonate with the journalists driving them. While testing data was being compiled in the confines of the offices, the rear-wheel drive bias models headed towards the bottom of the tarred-off portion of land to an opening that allowed for some theatrics. The setting sun refracting the last remnants of golden light for the day paired to the shimmering paintwork provided a smoke show second to none. Despite a quattro system, the latest Audi RS 3 is capable of kicking the rear end out to chew through rear rubber at an alarming rate of knots.

The wafty Mustang on the other hand was capable of transferring all of its power solely to the rear wheels, with smoke billowing from the nauseating passenger experience. With the sun setting after the drag showdown and the airfield clearing its runway for the day, it was finally time to go home and prepare for the first road trip day. All drag race results and performance date will be included in the December issue of CAR Magazine, in the meanwhile, view the embedded Instagram video on highlights of the day.
