At the forefront of the new BMW X1 range is a performance-oriented model that showcases the unmistakable M character.
The X1 M35i xDrive builds upon the core driving pleasure found in the compact Sports Activity Vehicle concept and injects it with the dynamism, agility, and precision that M models are renowned for.

Under the metal, you’ll find a 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine that belongs to BMW Group Efficient Dynamics’ new modular generation of engines. Utilizing M TwinPower Turbo technology, this powertrain churns out an impressive 221 kW of power, or up to 233 kW depending on the market. The peak torque for this model is stated to be 400 N.m.

The power is efficiently distributed to all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive system, which is coupled with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission featuring a mechanical limited-slip differential.

This differential limits the difference in rotational speed between the front wheels, resulting in improved handling dynamics when tackling corners. As a result, the X1 M35i xDrive can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5,2 seconds, with an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h.

To ensure superior stopping power, BMW has introduced a new integrated brake system. The X1 M35i becomes the first M Performance model to offer an optional M Compound system, equipped with four-piston callipers and 15,2-inch drilled discs at the front and single-piston units with 13,0-inch discs at the rear.
These imposing brakes are finished in gloss grey and are concealed behind either standard 19-inch or optional 20-inch wheels. Additionally, the X1 M35i boasts BMW’s adjustable M Suspension as standard, along with sport steering.

Complementing its power and performance, the range-topping X1 features an aggressive exterior design, including larger air intakes on the front fascia, prominent side skirt extensions, a model-specific roof spoiler, and a rear apron with a new diffuser that incorporates quad exhaust pipes.

The cabin of the X1 M35i xDrive doesn’t disappoint either. Alongside optional M sport seats, an Alcantara-trimmed instrument panel, and an anthracite-coloured roof liner, the highlight is the latest version of BMW’s iDrive infotainment system.
This model becomes the first from BMW to feature the new iDrive 9 tech, which offers a redesigned home screen and an improved menu structure inspired by consumer electronic devices.

With a starting price of $49 900 (approximately R929 000), the X1 M35i xDrive offers an enticing entry point to the world of performance SUVs. Combining power, style, and advanced technology.

The entry level M SUV is yet to be confirmed for South Africa but we speculate it will arrive considering local fervour for the Bavarian brand’s performance models.
