During the unveiling event, Mahindra will also showcase the brand’s future mobility plans. Not many details have been disclosed about the model so far, but it is known that, like the anticipated five-door Thar, the upcoming Mahindra bakkie will be based on the Scorpio N platform which features a longer wheelbase. The teaser video clearly demonstrates its capability to handle rough terrain, thanks to the off-road spec tyres.

The production version, rumoured to arrive in 2025, may offer two body styles: a single cab and a double cab. Powertrain details have not been revealed yet but it’s likely that the expected model will share its powerplant with the Scorpio N SUV. This means potential options for both petrol and diesel engines, with six-speed manual or automatic gearboxes and the choice of 2WD or 4WD. As a reminder, the petrol version of the Scorpio N SUV produces 149 kW and 380 N.m, while the diesel option generates 129 kW and 400 N.m.

The status of whether the Scorpio N Bakkie will replace the current Pik Up or be sold alongside it remains unclear. The current Mahindra Pik Up is priced at R640 000 at its highest spec (Karoo Storm) and is equipped with a 2,2-litre diesel engine producing 103 kW of power at 3 750 r/min and 320 N.m of torque at 1 500 r/min.
